Gaz de Normandie is developing the project to construct an LNG terminal in the port of Le Havre-Antifer.
The purpose of this project is to create a new entry point for natural gas into the French market and to enhance the security of supply for France and the European Union.
The port of Antifer, isolated beneath the cliffs in Pays de Caux, already receives 20% of the crude oil imported into France. It offers exceptionally safe conditions to accommodate ships of all sizes. With annual tonnage exceeding 12 million, it is one of the large French hydrocarbon ports.
The Gaz de Normandie project is part of the country’s sustainable development process, reconciling economic and social progress with protection of the environment.
Since the project began, design studies have given priority to the safety of local residents and of people working on the site, and to the least impact. In particular, the main source of energy at the terminal is sea water, whose heat is used to vaporize LNG.
Economically, this new infrastructure is related to development and diversification of port activities at Le Havre against a background of strong competition from the other large European ports.
